Yale Day of Service is this Saturday, May 10, 2014! This year there are more than a dozen sites around LA and Orange County ready for you to volunteer. We of YaleWomen Los Angeles can help make the Yale Day of Service the biggest one worldwide.

From the list of volunteer sites below, we'd like to draw special attention to the event YaleWomen LA is co-sponsoring with the Yale Black Alumni Association and the Yale Club of LA, Empowerment and Success! Workshops: Girls Empowered 2 & Game Changers. 

 

This kickoff event targets girls and boys from foster care, group homes, inner city schools and urban churches and seeks to empower them using workshops on financial literacy, self esteem/confidence, and healthy relationships. Boys and girls groups will be separated to allow for open and safe discussion of the issues.  

 

You may find follow-up opportunities to volunteer at subsequent workshops that will occur every 3 months through May 2015 and will focus on selecting colleges, choosing careers, creating a personal brand, and more. You may also find other volunteer opportunities from this event like holding informational interviews with the participating kids if you're in a career they're curious about. Then, at the 2015 Day of Service event, the participants will report back on what they have accomplished and learned over the year!

Workshop via the Yale Club Yale Day of Service site, or if it is not accepting registrations, please email  [email protected].  This site is spearheaded by YWLA member Sheryl Carter Negash, and will feature YWLA board member Robinne Lee and facilitation by fellow YWLA board member Monica Nordhaus.

We are the women of Yale University in Los Angeles!  The group was originally formed to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the greatest thing ever to happen to Yale - the admission of women!  We now come together as a local chapter of the alumni special interest group, YaleWomen, every few months for potlucks, festivities, outdoor adventures and "lux et veritas" educational and enlightening talks.
