The Leading Ladies Gala is one of our signature events for the fall semester. Established in 2012, it recognizes the achievements of outstanding undergraduate female leaders on campus and aims to bring together Yale undergraduates, alumnae, faculty, and guest speakers to engage in a spectacular celebration of female leadership on campus and beyond. If you would like to read more about our inaugural event, please feel free to read the front-page YDN coverage.
This year, to continue our strong tradition of mentorship, empowerment, and support, we have invited and confirmed keynote speaker Kathryn Sullivan.
Dr. Kathryn Sullivan serves as the Under Secretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere administrator at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), an agency that aims to keep citizens, planners, emergency managers, and other decision-makers up to date with information about our changing environment. The NOAA’s tasks include daily weather forecasts, severe storm warnings and climate monitoring, fisheries management, and coastal restoration. Dr. Sullivan has previously served as the President and CEO of the Center of Science and Industry (COSI) in Columbus, Ohio and as the United States Co-chair of the Group on Earth Observations (GEO). She was also one of the first six women selected to join NASA’s astronaut corps in 1978, and can proudly say she was the first American woman to walk in space. For more information on Dr. Sullivan, please visit http://www.noaa.gov/sullivan.html.
