Women in Charge: Closing the Gender Gap in Leadership

Wednesday, October 7: Women in Charge: Closing the Gender Gap in Leadership

Women hold over half of all management and professional positions, yet comprise only 5% -- 1 in 20 -- of Fortune 1000 CEOs. How can men and women work together to debunk myths, take action and create value for business and society by increasing the number of women in senior leadership roles and by building healthy work cultures?

We invite all Yale alumni (men and women) and their guests to join us for an evening of open and candid dialogue at our Fall Leadership event featuring:

  • Robin J. Ely, Diane Doerge Wilson Professor of Business Administration and Senior Associate Dean for Culture and Community at Harvard Business School
  • Kristine S. Langdon, Senior Client Partner Korn/Ferry and former CEO and Founder of Thermo Vision Corporation
  • Jim Wall, retired Global Managing Director, Human Resources and Chief Diversity Officer of Deloitte

Professor Ely, Yale M.A. '86, M.Phil '87 and Ph.D '89, will present her research on more than 25,000 male and female business school graduates, addressing how women can become more effective leaders and how to deal with gender stereotyping of both women and men. Kristine Langdon, Yale '81 (PC), of Korn/Ferry, and Jim Wall of Deloitte will discuss their experiences creating more supportive environments for promoting women to senior leadership positions within consulting, life sciences and technology organizations.

This Sunday's (9/20) NY Times Sunday Review section includes commentary by New America Foundation President & CEO Anne-Marie Slaughter on "A Toxic Work World," which cites Professor Ely's research and issues of gender stereotyping for both men and women.

Sign up and show up for this timely and compelling panel discussion, Q&A and networking event, moderated by Tanya Chermak, SOM '83, and Zack Schuman, SOM '13. Co-sponsored by Yale SOMAA Boston Chapter, YaleBoston, and YaleWomen Boston.

100 Summer Street is at the intersection of Devonshire and Summer in Boston's Financial District. Building security will confirm your RSVP and guide you to the correct floor. Please allow time for this security check.

Nearest T stops are South Station (Red and Silver Lines plus commuter rail) and Downtown Crossing (Red and Orange Lines). Many inbound MBTA bus routes stop at Federal & Franklin Streets, a short walk from 100 Summer.

There are numerous parking facilities in the immediate area, some of which allow advance reservations online. A Google Maps search on "parking near 100 Summer St Boston" will display a number of nearby options. Driving and parking in the area will likely require substantial time due to evening rush hour congestion. Cabs are convenient options for leaving 100 Summer after the event when the evening rush hour has passed.
