The evening will feature a sequence of documentaries filmed in the last nine months by neighborhood residents as part of a project sponsored by ID Studio Theater called Mott Haven Home Movies: South Bronx Cribs. Several of the filmmakers will be present to discuss their work. Following the films, drinks and empanadas will be served in the garden area of the center.
ArtsLatinoNY, a multi-disciplinary strategic Latino arts alliance, unites three influential and renowned Colombian artists and their companies under one roof. Our vision is to work with the local community to educate under-served youth and adults in the arts, and bring collaborative multi-disciplinary bilingual programming to communities all over the NYC area through the medium of Latin American theater, dance, film and music. Take the Lexington Avenue #6 train one stop past 125th Street -- to 138th Street and 3rd Avenue in the South Bronx (Mott Haven). Go up the stairs toward the front of the the train and exit on the NW corner of 138th street and Alexander Avenue, next to the 40th Precinct building. There you will find a plaque describing the history of the three blocks from 138th to 141st Street on Alexander Avenue, once known as the "Irish Fifth Avenue," which now form a National Historic District. Walk two blocks north to the Mott Haven branch of the New York Public Library and take a left on 140th street. #311 is the third building on the North side of the street. (Google "Mott Haven Historic District" for more information.)
